🪸 About the Tank

It all started with several trips to Maui over the years. Snorkeling over the reefs and watching fish dart through coral made me want to bring a piece of that home. I'd kept freshwater tanks before, but saltwater felt like a whole new world.

At first, I wanted to stock only Hawaiian species. But I kept coming across so many cool fish that I ended up just choosing what I like. I'm still on the lookout for a few Hawaiian favorites, like a Potter's angelfish or a Flame wrasse, but those aren't available right now because of the export ban.

In May 2025, "I Miss Hawaii" was born — an Innovative Marine EXT 75 mixed reef. These days, my favorite fish is Sushi, my skunk tilefish. I’ve really fallen for tilefish, and one of my future goals is to build a tank focused just on them. I’d also love to try a smaller, specialized setup for garden eels at some point.
